Małgorzata Mirga-Tas: Conjuring the World

24 April – 23 July 2023

For the first time in the more than 120-year history of the Venice Biennale, the national pavilion was represented by a Roma artist. Małgorzata Mirgi-Tas's Conjuring the World exhibition — shown last year at the Venice Biennale, then in Ferara, and now in Warsaw — is the artist's manifesto on Romani identity and art, which draws inspiration from Renaissance, astrological frescoes from the Palazzo Schifanoia in Ferrara. Before us is the "palace of images", an installation consisting of twelve large-format fabrics, corresponding to the twelve months of the calendar. The exhibition is an attempt to broaden the history of art by presenting the culture of the Roma, the largest European minority.
