On the occasion of the artist's exhibition at Frith Street Gallery, and her first presentation in the UK, Małgorzata Mirga-Tas was joined in conversation by artist Delaine Le Bas on Thursday 12 October. The conversation was moderated by artist, curator and educator, Barby Asante.
Małgorzata Mirga-Tas
Romani artist, educator, and activist Małgorzata Mirga-Tas's work addresses anti-Roma stereotypes and engages in building an affirmative iconography of Roma communities. Her work depicts everyday life: relationships, alliances and shared activities.
Delaine Le Bas
Delaine Le Bas was born in Worthing, UK where she lives and works today. Her work addresses nationhood, land, belonging and gender across diverse media including embroidery, painting, decoupage, sculpture, installations and performance that reflect domestic claustrophobia and the transient nature of modern materiality.
Barby Asante
Barby Asante is a London based artist, curator, educator and occasional DJ. Her work is concerned with the politics of place, space memory and the histories and legacies of colonialism. Asante's work is collaborative, performative and dialogic, often working with groups of people as contributors, collaborators or co researchers.
