Until 21 August 2022
We are excited to announce that Fiona Banner aka The Vanity Press has created three prints for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, as well as the new digital film work Dear Bathos, Love _____________, 2022.
The prints come from Banner’s series of found seascape paintings and are time limited editions with all proceeds from sales going towards war relief charities in Ukraine.
Banner has explained: ‘In 2016 I tried to make an installation of full stop sculptures (in various fonts), in the channel, the contentious water between the UK and mainstream Europe. After much ado, in the end it didn’t work out, and I started making full stops seascape paintings as a way of documenting a... possibility. Few years after that I started working with Greenpeace on their underwater barrier against bottom trawling, also in the channel, which involved deploying big black granite full stop sculptures into the sea. So the full stop seascapes hover between the documentation of something that didn’t happen and the preemption or recollection of something that did. Language on the precipice… language sinking… language floating - a drift.’
The artist’s Full-Stop Seascapes will also be presented as part of Frith Street Gallery’s Summer Show Found Forms which opens Friday 1 July.
