The World Weather Network

We are delighted to announce the participation of Raqs Media Collective in the World Weather Network, an artistic response to the global climate emergency.
For one year starting the 21 June 2022, 28 arts organisations will collaborate to form a ground-breaking constellation of ‘weather stations’ located across the world in oceans, deserts, mountains, farmland, rainforests, observatories, lighthouses and cities. Engaging climate scientists and environmentalists, the World Weather Network artists will share ‘weather reports’ in the form of observations, stories, images and imaginings about their local weather and our shared climate, creating an archipelago of voices and viewpoints.
In partnership with the Yinka Shonibare Foundation, Raqs Media Collective will be stationed at The Farm; Y.S.F.'s conceptual weather station hosted at Guest Artists Space (G.A.S.) Foundation's purpose-built residency building based in the village of Ikise, Nigeria. It sits on the 54-acre working Ecology Green Farm and will provide practice and research space for visiting artists and researchers who will be participating in the initiative. As the project’s first weather reporters, Raqs will explore the weather station from an experiential, conceptual and human-based approach. Throughout the work, the Collective will collaborate with other G.A.S. residents, visiting artists and researchers whilst engaging with a wider network of peers, artists, scientists and farmers across the very different geological regions of Nigeria.
