  • Tacita Dean: Buon Fresco

Image of: Tacita Dean: Buon Fresco Large format paperback: 112 pages, 116 colour plates
    Published by MACK, 2016
    ISBN 13: 9781910164280
    Dimensions: 38.5 cm x 28 cm
    Artist Tacita Dean

In her work, Buon Fresco, 2014, Dean filmed details of Giotto's frescos in the Upper Basilica in Assisi using a macro lens, in order, she said, to have the perspective of the artist himself. Frescoes are meant to be seen from a distance, so this book provides a revelatory view of the minutiae and sophistication of Giotto's brushstrokes, which at times anticipates the future canon of mark marking in Western painting. Limited edition [1,000 signed and numbered copies]

  • Cornelia Parker: STOP

Image of: Cornelia Parker: STOP Embossed enamel sign with hand-painted white lettering
Published by Plinth supporting Ikon 50, 2015
    Dimensions: 487 x 248 x 8mm, Limited edition of 50, Signed by the Artist
    Artist Cornelia Parker

This limited edition is based on a photograph Cornelia Parker took of a battered parking notice on a 1960’s council estate in North London. Of the piece, the artist says "The signs are ubiquitous in London, displayed on all the estates of the period. Isolated from its context the instruction can refer to anything you want it to. Stop eating, Stop drinking, Stop smoking, Stop thinking, Stop worrying, Stop. The fact it is made in enamel means it has a certain authority commanding you to submit, (or to ignore if that is what you usually do to signs!). The black enamel encroaches on the white word, semi-submerged it suggests the viewer is perhaps leaving it a little too long to respond."
